The Darkside of Self Publishing
Just read an interesting post over at Writer Beware regarding the perils to the craft of writing threatened by ease of self publishing. Some very valid comments made and should be taken into account by all those considering the self publishing route.

It’s a very valid discussion, Sandy. With writers in a hurry to see their stories in print it’s all too easy to rush the work out there with the manuscript still quite raw. I learnt so much from my editors, and continue to learn so much. I’m grateful for their wisdom because, sadly, I’m still blind to some of my worst foibles…

Quite true, Helene – about the valid discussion, not your worst foibles.
At least those with a reputable publishing house can rely on their editors to keep them honest.

Hi, Suzanne,
I think its a pertinent issue. There needs to be gatekeepers for the craft, even if it is the author themselves.

You make a good point, Suzanne regarding advising any prospective buyers that the work has been professionally edited.
